Gabe Saglie's Travel Media Opps Substack
Travel trends. Print and Broadcast Editorial Opportunities. Content Partnerships.
Hi Travel Friends!
This is our first Substack newsletter! (So, please be patient with us!) I’m very excited to start communicating with you like this to share my upcoming print and TV editorial and partnership opportunities.
The first quarter of 2024 has taken me to some incredible destinations which has made for some great TV segments and editorial print pieces. As we head into spring and summer travel planning, there are many ways (outlined below) I can help amplify what you’re doing to promote your travel brands with media relations.
First, let’s recap Q1 2024, and then review upcoming editorial opps.
Las Vegas: Conducted a National Broadcast Media Event with 20+ TV interviews ahead of the Super Bowl to let travelers know what to expect in Vegas this coming year. Example: The Rhode Show (Providence, RI)
Bradenton, Florida: Conducted a Mini Broadcast Media Event for Visit Bradenton with five target market morning shows featuring Florida’s Gulf Coast and highlighting sustainable travel tips. Example: PIX 11 New York (New York, NY)
Dublin, Ireland: For 12 years, I’ve worked with Tourism Ireland to produce two days of live interviews in advance of St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin. While on-location, I also created other content packages to be used throughout the year. An example is this hour-long Ireland Rocks Documentary that aired on AXS this past December.
In-Studio Segments: I crisscrossed the country appearing in-studio at KTLA Los Angeles, New York Pix 11, Dallas Fox 4 News, San Francisco KTVU 2, and San Diego.
Events: Were you at the @Travadventure Show in Los Angeles? Phil Rosenthal’s team asked me to moderate his panel at the travel show and we had a great time!
Print Publications: I write for a number of local high-end publications across California and here are some of the highlights from the past few months.
805 Living: For their Winter 2024 issue, I contributed to the Pulse section with this feature on Kings Carey Wines.
805 Living: For the March Restaurant Issue, I took a look at “The Skinny on Fat-Washing” cocktail trend. Thanks to the bar teams at @thehotelslo & @granadahotelandbistro in San Luis Obispo; @thevictor_sy in @visitsyv; @raresocietysteakhouse in @VisitSantaBarbara; and @rosewoodmiramarbeach in #Montecito.
Montecito Journal: In the March 5th issue, I reviewed upcoming high-profile events targeting wine lovers.
Now, let’s look ahead to see how we can collaborate.
1. Broadcast In-Studio Segment Opportunities
Pitch me your destinations and deals! I appear in-studio or remote in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas, Seattle, Dallas and other top 30 DMA markets at least once a month and it will be no different for April, May and June. The next several months will be focused on spring and summer getaway ideas from local markets.
2. Broadcast Media Events
Our producer friends LOVE when I am LIVE from a destination! It gives a “Where in the World is Gabe Now?!” segment vibe. Let’s work together and produce something great!
National or Mini Broadcast Media Events: I appear on-location at a destination and conduct either five (5) LIVE interviews within the top 30 U.S. markets including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Phoenix, Sacramento, Seattle, etc. OR, I conduct 20+ interviews with stations within the top 75 markets. Right now, we have time available to conduct these as follows (all topics are fluid):
Mid-Late April: Summer preview and travel inspiration.
Early May: Spring and summer travel ideas, road trips, girlfriend getaways, health and wellness travel, etc. May is a ratings month which means even more exposure!
Early June: Horse racing season will be underway on the east coast. This year, the Belmont Stakes will run at Saratoga Springs and I want to help travelers get the most out of their time in Upstate NY and Southern Vermont.
Mid-June: Perfect for supporting upcoming summer festivals and events.
June 24 - July 7: I am headed to Australia with my family! Let’s go live from the land down under!
Mid-July: Travel inspiration for the rest of the summer.
3. Print Editorial Features
Pitch me your story ideas around new wine ventures, innovative food menus for spring and summer, fresh hotel offerings around wellness, stories from destinations aimed at solo travelers, luxury travelers and multi-generational groups! Lead times range from one week to three months.
4. Travel Media and Marketing Jobs Board
We’re all in this together, am I right? If you’re looking for your next great candidate or you’re looking for a new gig, let’s work together to make marketers dream jobs come true! Send me links to your job postings and we’ll start including opportunities for this group. Just like the below travel marketing job leads:
